The Central Region is home to Mafikeng, the capital of the province appropriately named 'The City of Goodwill'. It is a rapidly growing, modern, residential, administrative and commercial town, which contrasts with its fascinating history. The area is fairly flat and dry in the west, becoming bushveld towards the east. The Central Region offers game viewing and stunning cultural activities - including the Big 5 - bird watching, fishing, sport, hospitality, conference facilities, shopping, gaming, Anglo-Boer War sites and a number of excellent guesthouses and guest farms.

Bordered on the north by Botswana, on the south by the Free State and the Northern Cape, and on the northeast and east by the Limpopo Province and Gauteng, this is the North West province. The Magaliesberg mountain range in the northeast extends about 130 km (about 80 miles) from Pretoria to Rustenburg. The Vaal River flows along the southern border of the province. The North West Province offers an escape route to the real Africa where nature's wild creatures roam vast plains of African bush. A visit to the North West Province is hardly complete without a visit to one or more of its game or nature reserves. Known as the “Heritage Province”, the North West is a rewarding holiday destination that offers exciting wildlife and adventure encounters as well as the opportunity to participate in a rich cultural and historical heritage.
