Western Cape Golf Courses

Royal Cape Golf Course has hosted numerous S.A. Opens and is 18 holes, par 72, rating 72, 6121 metres. There are narrow, well-surfaced Kikuyu fairways and the Penn Cross greens are in a good condition. The course is well treed with 58 bunkers and 6 holes have water.
Erinvale Golf Course is 18 holes, par-72, and rating 72, 6400 metres. It hosted the 1996 World Cup of Golf and designed by the Gary Player. There is extensive sod layering in the bunker faces, wide undulating kikuyu fairways, Penn Cross greens and water on six holes. The rough is well kept and playable.
Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa and boasts the excellent 18 holes championship Stellenbosch Golf Course.
Cape Towns only links course - Milnerton golf course - situated between the sea and a lagoon. This course offers unparalleled views of Table Mountain.
Test your golfing skills on the championship layout of Rondebosch Golf Club. This excellent course offers golfers a good challenge with Table Mountain as your backdrop, situated 15 minutes from the centre of Cape Town.
The Westlake Golf Course is a 18 holes, par-72, rating 71, 5880 metres golf course. It is a well-wooded course, situated in parklands setting. There are superb mountain views all round. Westlake is always in great condition.
Clovelly Country Club offers an 18 holes, par-73, and rating 71, 5908-metre golf course. The course is set in a valley and surrounded by mountains. It has excellent fairways and bent grass greens. It is very rural with many trees and an abundant bird life.

The Overberg Region

Garden Route and Small Karoo

Spanning from Witsands in the west to Plettenberg Bay beach, the Garden Route and Klein Karoo, are polo and party-going pleasures. Vacillate between Golden vineyards, sun-drenched orchards,pin-drop-silent forests, sweeping lakes and birds eye view passes add to the mix. Enjoy endless beaches and the activities on offer. Stilbaais assets include treasures from the Stone Age and the Khoi people. Mossel Bay and Albertinia share the pleasure of bungee jumping thrills with Plettenberg Bay. Mossel Bay prides itself on offering the diverse experience of game viewing. Wilderness and Sedgefield are in the Lakes Region. George and Knysna has endless offerings of golf; green coastal treasures and malls with certainly keep you entertained. Ride the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train, go paragliding, or embark on Mossel Bay shark cage diving experience. Try the bungee jump from the Gouritz River Bridge (highest commercial jump in the world 216M). Golf it up at George or go to Mossel Bay, to quad bike and go game viewing. Go ride an Ostrich in Outdshoorn. Southern Right whale watching (mid- June-November) rates as a key highlight at Witsand, Stilbaai, Mossel Bay, Wilderness, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.

Cape Central Karoo

With its history recorded in stone and rooted in a time stretching back 300 million years this is the Karoo. Geologists come from across the globe to study the rocks and Palaeontologists consider it a dream place to visit because some of its rich fossil beds. Evidence of its fascinating history found at the Karoo National Park and along Laingsburg Geological Walk will astound visitors. The largest San rock art site in the Karoo at Nelspoort (40km north of Beaufort West), where you will find a fascinating record covering 30 000 years of San rock art. The Central Karoo is also a place of pioneers. Born here in the last century was Dr. Emil Hoffa, founder of the modern science of orthopaedics. It was also the birthplace of probably the world’s most famous surgeon, Dr. Christiaan Barnard, heart-transplant pioneer. In his hometown, Beaufort West, a collection of awards presented to him displayed in the local museum. His ashes were scattered in the garden of his boyhood home that is also part of the museum.

West Coast and Cedarberg

Stretching over 400km from south to north, the region and its people offer the visitor a surprising variety of travel experiences and destinations.
Berg River: Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Winterhoek and Cederberg Mountains to the east, the Berg River region of the Cape West Coast is popular among those who love open spaces and tranquillity. This regions main towns and villages are Velddrif, Aurora, Picketberg and Porterville.
The town of Velddrif includes Laaiplek, Noordhoek, Port Owen, Dwarskersbos and the nearby Aurora.
Picketberg stands at the foot of a mountain in the middle of undulating fields of wheat, green vineyards, fallow land and flowering yellow canola.
Porterville is a picturesque, country town on the slopes of the Olifants´ River Mountains and lies 140 km north of Cape Town on the R44 route.
The village of Goedverwacht situated in a fertile and well-watered valley characterized by gardens filled with flowers and thatched roofed houses.
Cederberg
Over the Piekenierskloof Pass and you are only two hours drive from Cape Town and yet the landscape has changed. Journey to the mission village of Wupperthal deep in the Cederberg, walk in the mountains and explore the ancient San rock art. In the Biedouw valley and towards the coast, the wild spring flowers are a spectacular sight in August and early September. Only 40 minutes drive away are the white sandy beaches of Lambert’s Bay and Elandsbay. Bird Island, with its thousands of cormorants and gannets, is a sight not to be missed and adventure-seekers will enjoy sand boarding and quad biking on the sand dunes.
Matzikamma
The Matzikama in the Nama-Karoo constitutes parts of the Atlantic Ocean, the Sandveld, the Knersvlakte and the Matzikamma Mountain range. The region gently undulates from peaks such as the Gifberg, Maskam and Koebee to the rich valleys of the Olifants River and Urionskraal. Scattered amongst this interesting landscape are the friendly towns of Vanrhynsdorp, Klawer, Vredendal, Lutzville, Koekenaap, Ebenhaezer, Papendorp, Strandfontein and Doring Bay.
Saldanha Bay,br> One of the largest natural bays in South Africa with a rich archaeological history The West Coast National Park (Langebaan) in the south is the first sign that you have entered Saldanha Bay territory. Hopfield is the place where you will find the fossilised ´Saldanha Man´ Migrating southern right whales and Heaviside dolphins are commonly sighted. Tick off your birding checklist as you learn to spot travelling waders, seabirds and birds of prey. Rejoice in the gift of sight when Nature´s own carpet comes to life with indigenous flowers between August and September, spanning the SAS Saldanha Nature Reserve, Jacobsbaai, Cape Columbine Nature Reserve in Paternoster, St Helena Bay and Hopefield the small town on the verge of the Sandveld.
Swartland
Malmesbury, the heart of the Swartland, 40 minutes drive from Cape Town, Malmesbury has wonderful old buildings on their "Historic walk about route" that includes the museum. Hiking trails and 4x4 routes for the more adventurous are available. Wine cellars and restaurants complete the perfect break away to the Swartland. The town boasts the country’s oldest milling company, Bokomo, which is ninety years old. The sandy, marsh and renosterveld (rhino grass) vegetation erupts with spring flowers in season (June to September) in the Kalbaskraal Nature Reserve. In addition, the leafy 9-hole golf course has an added attraction offering players a spectacular view of Table Mountain
